About this reunion

This is the first time the relatives of Helen Ruth Jackson and Robert Allen, Sr. have come together for a Family Reunion, and we couldn't be more excited! Historically, our family has gathered to say goodbye to loved ones we've lost. This reunion marks a beautiful shift in our legacy—we're choosing to celebrate while we're still here. Join us to dance, eat, play, laugh, embrace each other, and create lasting memories. We're building a new family tradition of togetherness and honoring the rich history we share. We hope you'll be there to help us start this family tradition!

Buying the Right Adapter for Egypt

So you’re headed on the trip of a lifetime and you and you want to buy the right adapter for Egypt! I got you! Planning a trip to Egypt is an exciting experience, filled with visions of ancient wonders and vibrant culture transporting you back into time. But amidst all the excitement, travelers often overlook the importance of packing the right essentials. One crucial item you’ll need for your Egypt journey is a reliable travel adapter. Egypt uses unique power sockets that may not be compatible with your electronic devices from home AND may not be compatible with the adapters you’ve used in Europe. I’ve written this comprehensive guide to walk you through everything you need to know about adapters for Egypt. Honestly, probably way more than you need to know about them and ensuring you stay connected and powered up throughout your travels.

Adapter for Egypt

Why Do You Need an Adapter for Egypt?

Egypt, like many other countries, has its own standard for electrical outlets and voltage. The power sockets in Egypt are of Type C and Type F, with a standard voltage of 220V and a frequency of 50Hz. If you’re traveling from a country with different plug types or voltage standards, your electronic devices won’t work without the right adapter.

Understanding Different Types of Adapters for Egypt

The type C adapters are commonly known as the Europlug. Type C is a two-round-pin plug that is widely used in many European countries. While Egypt, is of course not a European country, Egypt was colonized by England in 1882 until 1956.

The Type F plug, also known as the Schuko plug, has two round pins and two earth clips on the sides. This type of adapter is also compatible with the sockets in Egypt.

If you’re a frequent traveler or planning to visit multiple countries, investing in a universal travel adapter is a practical choice. Universal adapters come with multiple plug configurations, allowing you to use them in various countries, including Egypt. They usually have a built-in switch or slider that enables you to select the appropriate plug type for your destination.

Things to Consider When Choosing an Adapter

Compatibility: Ensure that the adapter you choose is compatible with the plug type used in Egypt (Type C or Type F). It’s essential to check the compatibility of your devices as well, as some appliances may not support the 220V voltage.

USB Ports: Look for an adapter with additional USB ports. This feature will enable you to charge multiple devices simultaneously, such as your smartphone, tablet, or camera.

Surge Protection: Consider getting an adapter with surge protection to safeguard your devices from unexpected power surges or fluctuations in electricity.

Compact and Lightweight: Travel adapters are meant to be portable, so opt for a compact and lightweight model that won’t add unnecessary bulk to your luggage.

Brand Reliability: Choose reputable brands or adapters with positive reviews to ensure quality and reliability during your travels.

What If You Forget to Pack Your Adapter

If you’re anything like me, you’re prone to forgetting things from time to time. I’ve certainly forgotten to pack or even purchase an adapter on more occasions than I’d like to admit…especially while I’m sitting here giving travel advice. But I’m a keep it real kind of girl so I can absolutely relate to this kind of thing. No need to fret though, here’s what you can do if you happen to forget your adapter:

Buy one at the airport in Egypt

Airports tend to be pretty good at selling to tourists and a lot of the stores and kiosks have things that tourists may need or have forgotten…such as adapters. If you realize before you land that you forgot it, head over to a store before you leave the airport to grab one!

Buy one at the mall

The mall in Cairo has quite a lot of stores you’ll find in the US and in the UK. You can pop by an electronics store or a pharmacy and likely find an adapter.

Borrow one from your hotel

I’ve done this a few times. Hotels tend to have a few adapters available for their guests to borrow. Just make sure you give it back before you check out so the next poor soul has an adapter too, ok?

Get this Along with Your Adapter for Egypt

One of my absolute favorite travel essentials is a power strip or donut with extra plugs. I use this with my adapters no matter where I go. I literally always packed this.

<iframe sandbox="allow-popups allow-scripts allow-modals allow-forms allow-same-origin" style="width:120px;height:240px;" marginwidth="0" marginheight="0" scrolling="no" frameborder="0" src="//ws-na.amazon-adsystem.com/widgets/q?ServiceVersion=20070822&OneJS=1&Operation=GetAdHtml&MarketPlace=US&source=ss&ref=as_ss_li_til&ad_type=product_link&tracking_id=libryiajones-20&language=en_US&marketplace=amazon&region=US&placement=B0BZZ5H12R&asins=B0BZZ5H12R&linkId=14d399f740a66b49ff1ff24e4b3e61f5&show_border=true&link_opens_in_new_window=true"></iframe>

This comes in handy when:

  1. There aren’t enough outlets in your hotel room or AirBnB (or wherever you are)
  2. When you’re in the airport and need to plug in but everyone is crowding the plug, you get to be a hero and make more plugs for others, while taking care of yourself as well.
  3. They also come in handy on planes if you have an Apple computer, those blocks can be pretty heavy and won’t stay put in the plugs on the plane. It’s super frustrating, trust me, I try to work on long flights and it makes it super hard when the plug won’t stay in.

Tips for Using Adapters Safely

Check Voltage Compatibility: Before plugging in any device, ensure that it supports the 220V voltage used in Egypt. Most modern electronic devices are designed to handle a wide range of voltages, but older appliances may require a voltage converter.

Unplug When Not in Use: To avoid unnecessary power consumption and potential damage to your devices, remember to unplug the adapter when you’re not using it.

Carry an Extension Cord: Some hotel rooms may have inconveniently located power sockets. Packing a small extension cord can be helpful for accessing outlets more easily.

Do Not Use with High-Power Appliances: Travel adapters are typically designed for low-power devices like smartphones, cameras, and laptops. Avoid using them with high-power appliances like hairdryers and irons, as they may overload the adapter.

    Cultural Etiquette and Useful Phrases

When traveling to Egypt, it’s essential to be aware of cultural etiquette and show respect for local customs and traditions. Here are a few useful phrases in Arabic that can enhance your travel experience:

    “Hello” – Marhaba

    “Thank you” – Shukran

“Please” – Min fadlak (to a male) / Min fadlik (to a female)

    “Excuse me” – ‘An iznak

    “Goodbye” – Ma’a as-salama

    Additional Travel Tips for Egypt

Currency and Money Matters: The official currency in Egypt is the Egyptian Pound (EGP). It’s advisable to carry some cash with you, as not all places accept credit cards. ATMs are widely available in major cities, making it easy to withdraw money.

Dress Code: Egypt is a predominantly Muslim country, and modest dressing is appreciated, especially when visiting religious sites. Pack clothing that covers your shoulders and knees to show respect for local customs.

Sun Protection: Egypt’s climate can be hot and sunny, so don’t forget to pack sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses to protect yourself from the strong sun.

I actually wrote a short listicle of my top random tips for traveling to Egypt.

Explore Egypt’s Amazing Cities: Egypt offers a plethora of breathtaking sights and experiences that will leave you in awe. Here’s a list of the Best Cities to Visit in Egypt.
